Triclosan is an endocrine disrupters. Laboratory and animal studies suggest that the chemical can affect reproduction and development. In September 9, 2016, the FDA banned the incorporation of triclosan household soap products and the next year prevented companies from using triclosan in over-the-counter health care antiseptic products without premarket review. Triclosan also has been banned in the European Union in personal care products.
